The Second Wave was a tremendous upsurging of creativity, passion, and relevance. While it broadened folk music’s appeal to wider audience with Peter Paul and Mary and the Kingston Trio, it also included Odetta and the Freedom Singers (who later became Sweet Honey and the Rock) whose songs were an important part of the civil rights movement, and with early Joan Baez and early Dylan ignited and defined a generational call for peace, freedom, and justice.
